Perceptions:  New Work by Mary S. Rezny and Karen Spears.

Logsdon 1909 Gallery is proud to announce the opening of a two person show featuring the work of Mary S. Rezny and Karen Spears.  The show entitled Perceptions  contains photo-based mixed media work by Rezny along with paintings and drawings by Karen Spears.

This two-person show, Perceptions, features works that look at the role of perception in different ways.  Both these artists rely on daily experience for inspiration.  Mary Rezny photographs images from nature, utilizing plants from her garden as primary subject matter.  Applying mixed media techniques including photo alt processes, digital photography, collage and paint, Mary’s images explore elements of light, form and texture, resulting in pieces that are both personally meaningful and beautiful in form.  Karen Spears’ subject matter comes from her home environment.   Her observational drawings of dogs are large-scale images that take on an abstract relationship to the two-dimensional space of the paper.  The small paintings she is showing explore personal narratives with recognizable and less-defined spaces.  Karen describes her work as dealing with “. . . the seemingly magical occurrences that come out of everyday observations and experiences.”  Both artists combine formal design elements with personal imagery to make work that is visually appealing and conceptually challenging on a variety of levels.
The show opens at the Chicago Arts District during the Second Friday Event on July 9, 2010 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM with an artist’s reception open to the general public.  The exhibition will be on view until July 24, 2010.

*Please note that this is the last exhibition for Logsdon 1909 Gallery.  We will be closing at the end of the month.
